Why Send A Thanksgiving Card?
Tags: Holiday Cards, thanksgiving cardsOne of the most under-appreciated card-appropriate holidays is fast approaching: Thanksgiving. One of the main themes of many business holiday cards is thanking customers and business associates for their business in the past year, and really isn’t that a perfect theme for a Thanksgiving card?
Now, you may think (and depending on your recipients, you may be right) that sending Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s cards every year is not only a bit of an expensive hassle, but will seem a bit excessive to your clients, associates and employees. Really, it isn’t that expensive when you consider that business is all about relationships. If, however, you are just starting out and money is tight, my suggestion is to divide your mailing list into three groups:
- One mailing for valuable business associates to mail at Thanksgiving, and consider including a small thank you gift with the cards.
- One mailing for absolutely everyone at Christmas. This is the ‘big one’ of the year … even though you’re paying special attention to your top shelf recipients, don’t shortchange the Christmas list! Everyone should get a short handwritten note in their card, and they should all be hand-signed and hand addressed, at minimum.
- One mailing for “big ticket” customers, sent at New Years. Again, consider including a thank you gift as well.
You can buy differently themed custom printed cards for the Thanksgiving and New Year’s mailings, with verses inside specifically targeted at those recipient groups (to enhance the personal feel), and send out a ‘general’ holiday card to everyone at Christmas. With this mailing schedule, you will not only make certain the most valuable individuals on your mailing list actually notice your cards, but you still give a nice bit of care and feeding to your regular clientele as well. A win-win-win situation if I ever saw one!
