Should I Send Coupons in Cards?

Tags: ,

Dear Ms. Cards Etiquette,
Is it OK to enclose coupons in our company greeting cards, or would that seem tacky?
- Bill

Of course it’s OK Bill! While you should take measures to make sure your cards seem sincere (hand sign them, hand address the envelopes, and use real stamps instead of the postage meter), including a coupon is perfectly acceptable. After all, everyone knows one of the biggest reasons for sending company greeting cards is promoting your business.

In holiday cards, the coupon seems like a little present for the recipients (you might make it a Buy X, get Y Free coupon). In cards thanking your customers for their business, it’s a nice little thank you gesture.

One tip for making it seem a little less blatantly commercial is to send a gift certificate instead of a regular coupon. Gift certificates seem even more like a genuine present than a simple percentage discount coupon. Depending on the average price of your merchandise or services, make the gift certificate in an amount that would approximately equal the percentage discount you were considering for your coupon.

You might also simply want to personalize a business appreciation card with your discount. CardsDirect can easily print your discount directly inside.

Good luck Bill!
