When to Send Invites to Holiday Parties?

Tag:

Dear Ms. Cards Etiquette
A lot of people in the office are scheduling their time off for the holiday season. I’m trying to organize an office Christmas card party when everyone’s here, and I’m trying to figure out when the last date is that we can send them out and have them arrive on time?

Scattered in Pueblo, Colorado

First off, good for you for planning ahead! You don’t sound that scattered at all, Scattered! Christmas cards are definitely the one thing that does NOT fall under the “better late than never” banner. The absolute last day you can send cards, and hope they’ll arrive on time within the US is December 15th, but that is pushing it. If anything delays any of your cards, they won’t arrive on time.

What I recommend is scheduling your Christmas card party for the week after Thanksgiving (the day after Thanksgiving would be better, but I assume you’ll have some employees taking a long weekend that day). If you can get your cards sent by the end of November or the first week in December, you’re pretty well guaranteed they’ll all arrive safely at their destinations before the big day.
